When I was in 7th grade, I wanted to find a way to reach out to the world and show it was possible to still come together. (Even though we were currently in a world that couldn’t be more isolated.)
I started with a simple art piece: a painting of the globe with a key fitted into it, not yet turned. This symbolizes how we all have the potential to come together as a united world, and in doing so we will be able to unlock it together. Then I created a letter with a print of my painting to send to 195+ countries and stately bodies to ask for a contribution of a flag, patch, pin, or other symbol that they wanted to represent their country.
I have been fortunate to have received over 170 contributions to date. I will not stop until I have received every single one. Once I have received every contribution, I will be able finish my final artwork with every contribution/country represented. My hope is that this project will inspire and show that it is possible for all countries in the world to come together for a common good. I believe that the arts connect every single person in the world and help us communicate when words, languages, and other outlets fall short.
